Professor Dr. J.K. Raizada: Biography

The holy place of Gwalior was blessed on 15th August 1940 when a son was born in the elite family of Shri Jayanti Prasad Raizada. Mother Kamla lovingly named her son Jay Krishna. Sown with the discipline and love of his parents, Jay Krishna was a brilliant student since childhood. Young Jay Krishna took admission in the medical college of Gwalior with the desire to serve humanity and family values ​​in his heart since his youth. In 1962, he completed M.B.B.S. and then went ahead to receive the degree of D.O. To obtain this degree, he took admission in the Institute of Ophthalmology, Aligarh and in 1964, he stood first in the university and received a gold medal. In 1966, he received the degree of Master of Surgery (Ophthalmology) from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. Dr. Jay Krishna Raizada then started his medical career as a lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal in 1967 and was promoted to Professor. After occupying the post of Head of the Department, he also held the post of Joint Director of the Directorate of Medical Education, Madhya Pradesh State at Satpura Bhavan, Bhopal.

Dr. Raizada was fond of gardening, painting, calligraphy, and photography and is famously known as the “best ever teacher” in Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal where he served on the faculty for nearly 4 decades.

He also proved to be an efficient administrator while working as head of the department, later Dean, GMC, and Joint Director of Medical Education at the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Mrs. Shubh Raizada, the life partner of Dr. Raizada, who has become synonymous with the prevention of blindness, became the daughter-in-law of the Raizada family in 1971, a cultured daughter of an elite family from Nagpur. She was the good luck for the auspicious family.

Two flowers bloomed in the garden of the Raizada family and both have scented the medical field. Daughter Dr. Niti Krishna Raizada, M.D. (Internal Medicine), DM (Medical Oncology and HematoOncology), M.R.C.P. (UK), and EMPH (US) is currently practicing as Senior Director, Medical Oncology and HematoOncology at Fortis Group of Hospitals in Bangalore. Son Dr. Akshay has obtained M.D. Internal Medicine, FACP (Fellowship Internal Medicine), and M.P.H. in the USA and works as a Critical Care Specialist in Sacramento, US.

Dr. Raizada entered Lionism by taking membership of Lions Club Bhopal in 1975 and never looked back. In 1988-89, he served as the President of Lions Club Bhopal. Since 1976, Mrs. Shubh Raizada has also been moving forward on the path of Lionism shoulder to shoulder with her husband and has held various posts. As the successful District President of Lions District 323-G in 1997-98, she has left an indelible mark. Shubh Raizada, a follower of her husband’s path of inspiration, has dedicated her entire life to human service.

During his entire career, Dr. J.K. Raizada worked as a professor in Gandhi Medical College and ICMR, New Delhi which was part of the Government of India, and together in both positions performed up to 200,000 eye surgeries including cataract surgeries and tried to change the entire rural cataract scenario in rural Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Raizada was awarded the “International Medical Excellence Award” by the International Medical Group in New Delhi in 2001 for his services.

Dr. Raizada was awarded the national level “Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Samman” for his achievements in the field of ophthalmology. For this exemplary work, he was nominated for the “Padma Award” in 2015.

In 2005-2006, Dr. Raizada was also honored by His Excellency Shri Balram Jakhar, Governor of Uttarakhand, for his excellent services in the field of ophthalmology. He was the Ophthalmologist to His Excellency Governor of MP and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for over a decade.

He served as Honorary Ophthalmologist of Railway Division, Bhopal, and State Bank Headquarters. He was the President of Madhya Pradesh Ophthalmologist Association. Served as chief advisor of the Tax Advisory Committee. Was an executive member of the All India Ophthalmologist Society. President, National Eye Protection Association, Bhopal, and Vice President, Madhya Pradesh National Eye Protection Association.

Also, due to his philanthropic interests, he visited Ramakrishna Ashram, M. Q. Rose Society, and Life Member of International Krishna Consciousness and served as a doctor there.

He wrote three remarkable books: “Muktibodh”, “Yantraraj Shriyantra” and “Durgasaptakoshi” which are published and widely circulated. “Muktibodh” is a reference book of philosophy at the postgraduate level in Barkatullah University.

The amazing talent & wonderful coordination of medicine and philosophy is represented in the form of Dr. J.K. Raizada.

He has various National and International Publications/ Presentations in Conferences, Journals, and Textbooks related to Ophthalmology with best paper awards at South Korea, Singapore, New York, etc. He has a patent for drug production (Itone Eye Drops being one of them), and more than 500 research participations and publications.

Dr. J.K. Raizada passed away suddenly on the night of 6th January 2008 after coming back from work.
